New Delhi, May 18, IRNA — Improved Indo-Pakistan relations are in the interest of the two countries, the region and the entire world as well, says an Indian security expert who welcomes the efforts to resume New Delhi-Islamababd talks.
Kapil Kak a well known Indian security expert told IRNA in an exclusive interview today that India and Pakistan are two important countries in the region and the world and both can only progress in the peaceful atmosphere.
Welcoming the efforts of leaders from both the countries to resume bilateral talks, Kak said that it is very much needed as all the outstanding issues can only be resolved through peaceful negotiations and dialogue.
Kapil Kak, who is also the director of the New Delhi-based ‘Center for Airpower Studies’ a reputed defense think-tank of India, said that India and Pakistan have been on the ways to improve their bilateral relations through dialogue but on incident of terror attack that resulted into the killing of more than 166 people in Mumbai in November 2008 has derailed all the efforts.
The former Air Vice Marshal of Indian Air Force, while stressing that the talks between the two countries should continue, said that ‘Insha Allah’ no terror attack should take place on Indian soil as the things will go out of control this time.
He said that terrorism is not only a threat to India but also for Pakistan and what New Delhi is asking from Islamabad is very genuine and Pakistan should act immediately to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism in its soil.
India’s demand is that Pakistan should prosecute the perpetrators of Mumbai terror attacks and accelerate the process, Kak said.
S M Krishna, Indian Minister for External Affairs talked to Shah Mahmoud Quraishi, his Pakistani counterpart in the last week during which both the leaders decided to meet and find the ways to resume the talk.
Mr. Krishna will visit Islamabad on July 15 this year and will talk with his Pakistani counterpart to find ways for improve their bilateral relations.
Before this, the foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan will meet to decide the agenda for the talks between the foreign ministers of both the countries.
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Syed Yousuf Raza Geelani met in Thimpu in the capital city of Bhutan on the sideline of South Asian Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit and asked their respective foreign ministers to find ways to improve the bilateral relations.
