New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Tejinder Khanna will inaugurate “Bab-e-Amir Khusrau” and “Dabistan-e-Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia” located in the Faculty of Humanities & Languages, Jamia Millia Islamia on November 9, 2010.
The inauguration function will start with the “Unveiling of the Plaque” by Shri Tejinder Khanna which will be followed by a recitation from Holy Quran. The “Welcome Remarks” will be made by Mr. Najeeb Jung, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia. Thereafter, the Chief Guest, Shri. Tejinder will deliver his address.
It is worth noting that Amir Khausrau one of the most celebrated poets of India, who served under several Sultans of Delhi and wrote several poetical works. Amir Khusrau was the murid of Shaikh Nizamuddin Aulia. He died in 1325 and was buried close to the dargah of Hazarat Nizamuddin Aulia. Amir Khusrau’s Masnavis are an important source for study of society and culture of the period in which he lived. Amir Khusrau is often called “Tuiti-i-Hind” i.e. “Parrot of India”.
Also, Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia was one the noblest disciples of Shaikh Fariduddin Ganj-i-Shakar, a Sufi Saint. He had appointed Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia as his Khalifa and assigned him the Vilayat of Delhi. Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia served the down-trodden of Delhi all his life.
He is called “Mehboob-I-Ilahi” and “Sultanul Mashaikh”. Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia died in 1325 and his tomb was built by Mohammad Bin Tughlaq and was again rebuilt by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan in the 17th Century. It is currently located in Basti Nizamuddin, New Delhi.
“In naming structures after Amir Khusrau and Hazrat Nizamudin Aulia, Jamia honours historical personages such as Amir Khusrau and Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia and pays a humble tribute to them,” said Jamia Media Coordinator Simi Malhotra.
