UAE emirate pardons 140 prisoners

Ras Al Khaimah (UAE) : The UAE emirate of Ras Al Khaimah has pardoned 140 prisoners so they can celebrate Eid with their families, it was announced Sunday.

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, supreme council member and ruler of the emirate, ordered the release of the inmates serving various jail terms.

Sheikh Saud also pledged to pay their travel expenses. The inmates would now be able to reunite with their families during the Eid Al Adha festivities Nov 16, an official said.

Ahmed Mohammed Al Khateri, chairman of Ras Al Khaimah Department of Courts, paid tribute to Sheikh Saud for the humanitarian gesture. He said it will bring smile to the faces of the relatives.
