Islamabad: The Pakistani government has said the heads of government departments will be held equally responsible if someone of their staff was found guilty of corruption, a media report said Friday.
This was decided Thursday at a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Rehman Malik, who reiterated that the government will take strict action against the corrupt public office holders.
“We wanted that the head of the concerned office should also be arrested for abetment in case of any ‘trap case’ or sting operation,” the Express Tribune quoted the minister as saying at the meeting.
The meeting also decided that action will be taken against banks for giving loans without adequate guarantees and examination of past transactions of the applicants.
An oversight committee was constituted Thursday comprsing former federal secretaries, State Bank and government departmental heads, among others.
“A paradigm shift is also needed to take strict action against ‘Hawala’ business as well as to curb money laundering in the market,” said Malik.
The meeting reviewed the modalities for implementation of the government’s anti-corruption policy.
“This is the first step against corrupt elements,” said Malik.
