Kang Rixin, former general manager of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), was punished for accepting about $1 million in bribes between 2004 and 2009, Xinhua reported citing a statement from the Beijing No.1 intermediary court.

CNNC is a large state-owned enterprise and is composed of over 100 subsidiary companies and institutes.

Kang, 57, was deprived of his political rights for life and his personal assets were confiscated.

The sentence was lighter because Kang cooperated with the investigators and returned all his ill-gotten gains.

Kang became a member of the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) Central Committee in October 2007.

He was stripped of his post and membership for “serious violations of the law and discipline breaches” in December 2009.

CNNC performs scientific research and development as well as operation in various fields such as nuclear electricity production, nuclear fuels and nuclear technology application.

It is the main investor for and the biggest owner of all the nuclear power plants across China, the major force of nuclear technology development, the supplier of nuclear power design and nuclear fuels.

The corporation is also the most important provider of technical service for the operation of all the nuclear power plants in China, the specialized supplier of nuclear equipments and instruments and non-standard components and the technical organization to ensure the operation and safety of nuclear power plants.
