Chandigarh : The senior manager of a nationalised bank was robbed of his car and mobile by gun-wielding youths in Chandigarh’s Sector 8, one of the busiest stretches of this union territory, police said Saturday.
According to police, the victim was identified as Gyan Chand Kaushik, 55, who worked as senior manager at the State Bank of India branch in Sector 17.
“Kaushik was returning Friday night to his home, in Sector 10, Panchkula (around 10 km from here), in his Swift Dezire car. He parked his car on the roadside to attend a phone call. Four youths were already following him in a Santro car and they also stopped their vehicle on the roadside,” said a police official.
“Two of the youths came out of the car and pointed a pistol towards Kaushik. They hit him on the head with the pistol and dragged him out of the car. They snatched his mobile phone and fled with his car towards Panchkula side,” he added.
Senior officials of Chandigarh police said they would nab the accused, who were in their early twenties, very soon.
“Police have recorded the statements of the victim and other witnesses. Very soon we will arrest the accused,” Deshraj Singh, assistant superintendent of police, Chandigarh, told IANS.
