New Delhi: The leadership of backward classes movement needs to enter politics if wants to get justice and equality,” said Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, an MP and the president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) while addressing the National Social Justice Conference here in New Delhi on 24th November.
Highlighting the urgent need for the political empowerment of the backward classes, Mr. Ajmal said that it’s high time all the leaders of this movement should enter politics as it’s only through political power that they can demand justice from the law as well as the policy makers.
From R to L Shabbir A. Ansari, M.M. Mazhari, Md. Salim and others
Mr. Ajmal said that the “demands for the reservation for the economically and socially backward Muslims in government services and in the educational institutions as recommended by the Ranganath Commission are genuine needs of the hour.”
Mr. Ajmal suggested Shabbir A. Ansari president of the All India Muslim OBC Organization who organized this conference that “it’s useless to be dependent on leaders of different political parties to get the demands of reservation fulfilled by the Indian political class.”
Badruddin Ajmal speaking at the conference
Mr. Ajmal was implicitly referring to different political leaders like Sharad Pawar and OBC leaders like Gopinath Munde of the BJP who were expected to attend the conference.
“Governments are formed and defeated because of few seats only and if you have political power then you will be in a position to bargain and ask for your genuine rights,” said Mr. Ajmal.
The audience
He told the audience that struggle to get justice should be done both inside and outside the parliament among the common people but “your representatives are important to get your voice heard inside the parliament also.”
While talking about reservations for the backward Muslims, CPM leader Md. Salim highlighted the example of West Bengal wherein the backward members of the community have been given 10% reservations by the state government.
While criticizing the UPA government for tabling the Ranganath Commission Report without the Action Taken Report (ATR), Mr. Salim demanded from the government to implement the recommendations of the Commission.
