Gautam’s sports utility vehicle (SUV) was stolen Saturday night after it was parked by his son around 10.30 p.m., police said.

“The 2010 make SUV was parked by Gautam’s son outside their residence in Mayur Vihar Phase III yesterday (Saturday) night after which the vehicle has not been seen,” said a police officer.

Gautam reportedly bought the vehicle around four months ago.

Police said there were chances that the stolen vehicle may have been driven out of Delhi. They said they have issued a pan-India wireless message to notify police in other states about the vehicle’s theft.

Delhi Police have a dismal record in recovering stolen vehicles. In 2008, only 1,934 out of 9,949 stolen vehicles were recovered. In 2009, 2,184 out of 11,892 stolen vehicles were recovered.
