Mumbai: Dealing with really a tense and critical situation in Mumbai due to festivals a bomb disposal squad got a job today. It was a call about a bomb in the Dawni Masjid just before the Friday Prayer. The squad reached and searched the place only to find the call a prank.
The mosque is situated in Nagpada, a Muslim dominated area in South Mumbai and it’s near ATS Maharashtra office. The bomb disposal squad felt relieved when found nothing and declared that it was just a rumor.
Outside the mosque, a Kashmiri, Altaf Bhat shouted and requested the Imam of the Dawni Masjid to pray for Peace in Kashmir at one pm, just before the Friday prayer was to begin. Accepting his request the Imam prayed for peace in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, he had also called journalists of different newspapers and TV channels claiming that there would be a peace rally of nearly 3000 people for Kashmir and it will begin from the Dawni Masjid. The Management of the mosque and Imam, however, were unaware of his ambitions and plan. He declared to the media that a delegation of Ulema and Imams of mosques in Mumbai will visit Kashmir for peace.
When the Management of the mosque came to know about his plan, they complained to the police that they have nothing to do with this programme and even they are unaware. Aslam Kiratpuri, Managing Trustee of the mosque alleged that Altaf Bhat has spread this rumor and he was carrying two bags. He said Police arrested Bhat and took him away but Police denied any arrest.
Senior Inspector of Nagpada, Sanjay Kadam explained that Altaf Bhat was a Kashmiri Muslim and came to Mumbai for Peace March and to ask the Imams for Peace in Kashmir. He was carrying a white flag. After initial investigation and interrogation Police didn’t take any action and released him.
