Sensex down 37 points in lacklustre trade

Mumbai: Trading in Indian bourses Thursday was dull, with a benchmark index of equities ruling 37.23 points

lower than its previous close.

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 19,944.3, was down 37.23 points or 0.19 percent at 19,904.49 points, from its previous close at 19,941.72 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was ruling at 5,970.9 points, down 0.34 percent.

Broader markets were also quiet. The BSE midcap was trading 0.17 percent up and the BSE smallcap index 0.65 percent higher.

The market breadth was positive with 1,543 scrips advancing, compared to 1,232 stocks declining and 99 remaining unchanged.

Healthcare, capital goods and PSU stocks saw some gains, but selling was seen in realty and banking scrips.

Most other Asian markets were closed Thursday for mid-autumn festival holidays.
