New Delhi : Swarn Singh Talwar, a pilot, was arrested in the capital for obtaining a commercial pilot’s licence based on forged marksheets, police said Wednesday. He is the 13th pilot to be arrested in the scam.
“Captain Swarn Singh Talwar, a former employee of MDLR Airlines, was arrested Tuesday night in Delhi,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand told reporters.
Talwar, a commerce graduate from Rajasthan University in Jaipur, was a member of the Rajathan Flying Club in 1992 and completed his 20 hours of flying from there.
After that he came to the Delhi Flying School in 1993 and completed 35 hours of flying. Later, he went to Texas, US, in 1995 to get an American commercial pilot license, Chand said.
“In 2010, he came back to India with an American airline transport licence (ALTP) and applied for an Indian ALTP. For this he appeared in examination but failed,” the police officer said, adding that Talwar then obtained his ALTP on the basis of forged documents prepared by Pradeep Tyagi.
In the forged result card, Talwar was shown as having cleared the papers of Air Navigation Composite and Air Regulation, which he had failed.
Tyagi, 35, a pilot who helped others to procure fake marksheets, was earlier arrested along with his two associates Pankaj Jain, 23, and Lalit Jain, 34, from Delhi and Chennai.
“During interrogation, Tyagi told police that Talwar had paid him Rs.50,000 for the forged result card. But Talwar denied he gave any money,” Chand said.
Meenakshi Sehgal of IndiGo, who also forged documents to obtain a pilot licence, was arrested earlier last week and was released on bail, police said.
