BJP objects to Chidambaram’s Gujarat remarks

New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken exception to Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s remarks on a senior Gujarat police officer accusing Chief Minister Narendra Modi of complicity in the 2002 riots, saying that the minister was interfering in the judicial system.

“Is it an appropriate thing to do? Does it not mean he is interfering in judicial system,” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman asked in response to queries from mediapersons.

Referring to the remarks of IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt and another IAS officer, Chidambaram said in Kolkota Monday that he was glad that people were standing up to say what they felt.

He said allegations have been in the air for quite some time and people had only now summoned courage to make them public.

Bhatt, who was part of the state intelligence set up, has blamed Modi for the communal carnage, saying the chief minister had said at a meeting that Hindus should “be allowed to vent their anger after Feb 27, 2002 Godhra coach burning incident.
