Sharma hurled a slipper at Kalmadi in New Delhi’s Patiala Court complex Tuesday.

Kalmadi, after his arrest a day earlier was being taken to the court as the CBI wanted to seek his remand for questioning in connection with alleged irregularities in giving contracts for the Games. He was sent to eight days’ police custody.

Sharma, after being released by police in Delhi, reached Gwalior, over 400 km from the state capital Thursday and was accorded a “hero’s welcome” by city advocates.

Sharma, who was heavily garlanded by his colleagues, told reporters on his daring act: “Now a direct war has begun against the corrupt people in India. It needs courage to do so but if you have courage, you find the way also.”

The local advocates were equally enthusiastic. “We need both kinds of people like Anna Hazare and Manoj Sharma. One is fighting peacefully and other is treating corrupt people as they deserve,” said Rajendra Sharma, a senior advocate.
