Rs.10.2 bn for deficit-stricken Pakistan Railways

Islamabad, Aug 6 (IANS) The Pakistan government has approved Rs.10 billion for the railways to help it overcome a Rs.52.5 billion deficit, Geo News reported.

The decision to provide Rs.10.2 billion to Pakistan Railways was taken in a meeting of the restoration committee of the cabinet with Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh presiding over it.

Pakistan Railways accumulated a deficit of Rs.52.5 billion till the end of June this year.

The meeting decided that Rs.6 billion would be spent on purchasing and maintenance of engines while Rs.4 billion would be spent to buy fuel and maintenance of railway tracks.

The restoration committee of the cabinet also directed railway officials to end the problem of train delays before Eid festival.
