Noida : Farmers from about 20 villages here submitted a list of demands, including higher compensation for acquired land and reservation in government jobs, to authorities Tuesday, a farmer leader said.
The farmers, under the banner of Kisan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti, met Noida’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Balvinder Kumar and submitted a memorandum of their demands.
The convener of committee, Jogender Singh Awana said: “We planned to march to the authority office, but the police and Magistrate Sanjay Chauhan urged us not to do so due to security reasons ahead of the Independence Day.”
He said the farmers’ demands were: allocation of 5 percent developed plots to the farmers whose land had been acquired between 1976 to 1997, compensation at market rates, regularisation of abadi (inhabited) areas of their villages, and reservation in government jobs and public schools.
“The CEO was cooperative in two demands — reservation in admission in public schools and regularisation of abadi plots. Regarding the rest of the demands, he said he will get back to us after consulting higher authorities in Lucknow,” Awana added.
Another farmer leader, Dushyant Nagar said farmers from Greater Noida too were present at the meeting to show solidarity with their counterparts in Noida.
