Hyderabad : The Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) Wednesday decided to intensify the agitation for a separate state from Thursday by pressuring legislators who had given their resignation letters earlier to submit the letters again.
Accusing the ministers and legislators of ruling Congress party of betraying the cause of the separate state, JAC urged people not to allow the legislators who refuse to resign to enter the villages.
JAC, which is spearheading the Telangana movement, also asked all legislators of opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to quit again.
The apex body Wednesday took out a rally and held ‘maha dharna’ here as a buildup for the indefinite strike of government employees, teachers and workers from Sep 6.
Leaders and activists of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other constituents of JAC participated in the rally and the maha dharna.
Taking strong exception to the ministers from Telangana attending Tuesday’s state cabinet meeting, JAC convenor M. Kodandaram said they had once again betrayed the people of Telangana.
He said while the legislators submitted their resignations for the cause last year, they went back after the speaker rejected their resignations.
Kodandaram demanded that all legislators should resign again to put pressure on the centre to carve out a separate state.
He announced a series of protest programmes starting Thursday to put pressure on the legislators.
Over 100 legislators of various parties in the region on July 4 and 5 had submitted their resignations but assembly speaker N. Manohar rejected all of them.
Kodandaram said the administration would be paralysed with the strike by government employees from Sep 6. He said services like transport would also come to a halt.
JAC leader said repressive measures by the government would not deter the employees from going on strike.
