New Delhi : Poor management and lack of enforcement of rules are the reasons for increasing parking woes in Delhi and a stringent parking policy is in order, a traffic police official said Wednesday.
“As a common man, I never dare to go to Chandni Chowk and certain other crowded places due to parking problems,” Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic) Satyendra Garg said at a conference on ‘Parking Reforms for a Liveable City’.
“Delhi is in a mess when it comes to parking. A drastic change and implementation of stringent parking policy is necessary,” he said at the conference organised by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).
According to CSE, parking takes eight to 10 percent of the land in Delhi. “Common price in parking, optimised parking revenue and mobility management will help immediately, but a proper parking policy is necessary in the long run,” Garg said.
He also said that law should be the same for everyone — whether it’s a common man’s vehicle or a vehicle which carries the red or blue beacon.
Meanwhile, Delhi government chief secretary P.K. Tripathi said: “We endlessly talk about parking woes but no solution is found. A proper parking policy has to be formulated for the city.”
