Shillong : Protest continued here in Meghalaya Wednesday against the government action against Gandhian activist Anna Hazare, who is still in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
Carrying flags and holding placards, the protesters assembled in front of Meghalaya legislative assembly secretariat, raising anti-government slogans.
Social activists, students, NGOs and people from different walks of life came out of their homes on streets demanding that the Lokpal Bill drafted by him should be adopted by the government.
“We demanded that the government should adopt the Lokpal Bill drafted by the civil society group,” Emlang Lyttan, the president of powerful Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People’s, said.
He also criticised the government for “illegally detaining” the Gandhian activist.
Hazare was jailed Tuesday ahead of his fast for an effective anti-corruption law.
The Delhi Police action led to protests across the country. The government changed its mind later in the evening and released Hazare but he refused to move out of the jail until he was allowed to carry on his hunger-strike without any conditions.
