Gandhinagar : Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, in the eye of a storm after he pointed fingers at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in relation to the 2002 communal riots in the state, was Thursday questioned by the CBI in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shootout case.
The investigating officers who questioned him for two hours Wednesday extended it to Thursday as well.
Reliable sources here said Bhatt also provided documents that allegedly incriminate now retired additional Director General of Police O.P. Mathur as well as senior IPS officer Geetha Johri who was at one stage probing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case.
The sources said the documents made available to the CBI include some that bring out how RSS ideologue S. Gurumurthy has been an intrinsic part of the legal moves by the state government in the matter.
Bhatt has already gone on record to say how sensitive information of the Supreme Court set up Special Investigation Team (SIT) was being shared with state Advocate General Tushar Mehta and Gurumurthy.
Bhatt created a stir when he stated in an affidavit before the apex court that the chief minister had asked his police officers to go easy on majority community rioters up in arms against the minorities after the Feb 27, 2002 Godhra train carnage.
Sohrabuddin was killed by state police in a staged shootout on Nov 26, 2005 and his wife Kausar Bi was allegedly eliminated a few days later.
