New Delhi : Designer couple Shyamal and Bhumika Sodhan have been felicitated by Gujrat government for their initiative to support the Gujarat Cancer Society (GCS) through fashion.
The designers, along with GCS, organized a fund-raiser last December. The initiative was an effort to build Asia’s largest cancer care centre in Ahmedabad.
Shyamal and Bhumika were awarded for their contribution to the Gujrat Cancer Society by Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Health Minister Jay Narayan Vyas on Saturday, they said in their message on their community fan page on Facebook.
Bollywood celebrities including Sonakshi Sinha, Saif Ali Khan and Salim-Suleiman attended the event in the Karnavati Club lawns in Ahmedabad.
“It’s always nice to contribute in whatever way possible. Fashion today has become a nice platform to raise awareness and support cause,” said Shyamal.
Shyamal and Bhumika started their career with Lakme Fashion Week in 2006 and since then, they have participated in the London and Milan fashion weeks.
Their designer label – Shyamal and Bhumika – is globally known for its Indian wear collections and they retail from stores in Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai and Ahmedabad as well as New York and Chicago.
