The counting of votes for the Adampur seat is being carried out at the Panchayat Bhawan in Hisar, Adampur election officer Amardeep Jain said.

The final results are expected in the afternoon, election officials said.

Nearly 79 percent voter turnout was witnessed in the by-elections to the Haryana assembly from the Adampur and Ratia constituencies Nov 30.

While Adampur in Hisar district recorded nearly 76 percent polling, the voting percentage in Ratia in Fatehabad district was nearly 82 percent.

In the Adampur constituency, considered a stronghold of former chief minister Bhajan Lal’s family, his daughter-in-law, Renuka Bishnoi, the wife of Hisar MP Kuldeep Bishnoi, is the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) candidate.

The Adampur seat in Hisar district fell vacant October this year following the election of HJC president Kuldeep Bishnoi to parliament from the Hisar parliamentary constituency.

The Ratia seat had fallen vacant in September after the death of sitting Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) legislator Gian Chand Odh following illness.
