Beijing : The solar industry in America was “materially injured” by imports of solar cells from China, a US trade panel has claimed.
All six commissioners of the US International Trade Commission (USITC) made the statement Friday in the case filed by a group of American photovoltaic companies, the China Daily reported Sunday.
The US companies alleged that Chinese photovoltaic products were subsidised by the Chinese government and sold in the US market at less than fair market value.
The US imported nearly $1.2 billion worth of solar cells from China in 2010, according to USITC data.
However, some American companies disputed the charges, arguing that Chinese imports helped consumers and promoted rapid growth of the industry.
The tension could spark a trade war with China and raise prices for the entire industry, they said.
