Tehran : Iran’s Energy Minister Majid Namjou Wednesday said its Bushehr nuclear power plant will produce 1,000 MW of electricity from March next year.
He said the Bushehr plant will join the nationwide grid by March 19, 2012, Xinhua quoted the official IRNA news agency as saying.
Tests have been conducted successfully and the ministry is waiting for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran to announce its readiness for the operation, Namjou said.
So far, some 500 MW of electricity from the Bushehr plant is being supplied to the national grid.
The plant was built in collaboration with Russia.
Moscow signed a contract with Iran in 1998 to complete the construction. But the project was postponed several times due to technical and financial challenges as well as pressure from the US.
