New Delhi: Terming Anna Hazare as “impatient”, the Congress Monday said that the social activist should have waited for the Lokpal bill to be passed in parliament before deciding to protest against the legislation.
Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi told reporters that the Lokpal bill will be passed in the extended winter session.
Answering queries on Team Anna’s plan to stage dharna outside residences of parliament members, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Alvi said they have a constitutional right to stage a protest but the move was unfortunate.
“Of course, Annaji is impatient. He is within his rights… he can sit anywhere. But it is unfortunate because Lokpal bill has already been tabled and ultimately parliament will decide. The session has been extended. Within three days it will be discussed and later on it will be passed,” he said.
Alvi stressed that only parliament has the right to make laws.
The winter session of parliament has been extended by three days to discuss the Lokpal bill. The two houses will meet Dec 27-29 to discuss the long-pending legislation.
Hazare has also decided to go on three-day fast in Mumbai from Tuesday to press for a strong Lokpal bill and has given a call for “jail-bharo (fill the jails)” from Dec 30.
