Mumbai : The Central Bureau of Investigation Thursday grilled three men named in the Adarsh Housing Society scam as the prime accused, an official said.
Called for questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation Thursday were promoters of the society – Brigadier (Retd) M.M. Wanchu, who is the president of the society; Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, former Congress members of the state legislative council and co-promoter of the society; and R.C. Thakur, the chief promoter of the society and a former Defence Estates officer.
CBI onal head Rishi Raj Singh confirmed the questioning but refused to divulge further details.
“The questioning of the three accused is still on. It is too early to comment on the outcome of the same,” he said.
The CBI Sunday raided the residences and offices of Wanchu, Gidwani and Thakur and seized several incriminating files, documents and laptops.
Wanchu, Gidwani and Thakur are among the 13 people accused and named in the first information report (FIR) filed by the CBI Saturday. Former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan is also named an accused.
The 31-storey Adarsh Housing Society apartment block in the posh Colaba area of south Mumbai, meant for Kargil heroes and war widows, was given to bureaucrats, relatives of politicians and former army and navy chiefs, among others. It was also built flouting environmental norms.
