Ranchi : India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni Friday said the team should perform well to take the pressure off batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar in the World Cup starting Feb 19.
Tendulkar,37, would be making his sixth appearance in a World Cup and the players have said they want to win the prized trophy for him.
“It is not right to put pressure on Sachin. All the team members should perform well and ease the pressure off him,” said Dhoni, who was in his home town here to inaugurate the Twenty20 Jharkhand Premier League (JPL) beginning Friday.
“There is a perception that this is Sachin’s last World Cup. He can go on to play another World Cup,” Dhoni.
He admitted that “fielding” is one area which the team needs to improve.
