Chennai: The General Body of Manida Neya Makkal Katchi (MMK) ratified the party’s alliance with opposition AIADMK of Jayalalita for the next assembly election at its meeting on 30th Jan. here at Tambaram suburb of Chennai. MMK delegation under its president Prof. M.H. Jawahirullah last month had met former CM Jayalalita regarding the alliance.
The General Body reiterated the main goal of the party is to dethrone the ruling DMK. The MMK has pledged to oppose the DMK by combating it in the forthcoming general election in all the 224 Assembly constituencies with an electoral relation with AIDMK.
The party also decided to put 2G spectrum issue in its electoral agenda. The General Body expressed concern also on soaring prices that they think is the result of the wrong policy of UPA government at the centre.
The party has resolved to bring back the Katcha Theevu (No man’s island near Rameswaram which once belonged to India) from the clutches of Sri Lanka, to save the fishermen folk on high sea being on regular attacks of Sri Lankan coast guards.
While 4000 party cadres assembled from Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, the prominent partymen present at the meeting included O.U. Rahmathullah, Haroon Rasheed, J.S.Rifayee, Thamim Ansari and Gunangudi Haneefa and its leader Prof. Jawahirullah.
