Hyderabad : The ruling Congress party and main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Friday welcomed the Supreme Court order rejecting YSR Congress party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s petitions seeking a stay on a CBI probe into the alleged amassing of huge wealth by him.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and other leaders of ruling party said that if the Kadapa MP is innocent he should prove this instead of seeking a stay on the probe.
Talking to reporters in Chittoor, the chief minister denied that the CBI probe is political vendetta against Jagan and pointed out that Jagan’s father and late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy himself had ordered CBI probe on many occasions.
“The facts will come out in the CBI probe,” Kiran Kumar Reddy said.
Senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao asked Jagan why he was trying to escape from the probe. “He has been saying that he is innocent. Let him prove it. Why is he afraid of facing the investigations,” asked the Rajya Sabha member.
TDP leader P. Keshav said the Supreme Court order was significant and would mark the beginning of a fight against corruption. Another leader Rajender Prasad said the day was not far when Jagan would be behind bars.
However, YSR Congress party leader Ambati Rambabu said the CBI probe against Jagan was result of a political conspiracy hatched by a minister by joining hands with opposition.
In its interim order on July 12, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry into allegations that Jagan amassed huge wealth by illegal means when his father was chief minister.
The court asked the federal agency to complete the probe in two weeks and submit its report in a sealed cover.
The orders came on petitions by state Textiles Minister Shankar Rao, TDP leader Yerran Naidu and a lawyer.
