New Delhi: Yoga guru Ramdev’s agitation against black money is nothing but an “attention diverting tactic” of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), senior Congress leader and union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said Monday.”It is an attention diverting tactic of the RSS. After Gandhiji’s assassination, this is the first time that the RSS is in the dock, having been linked to blasts like Malegaon… there would not have been a better opportunity for them to divert attention,” Azad told reporters.
“Most of the country was going against RSS, and BJP has recently lost all elections in all states,” he added.
He also questioned BJP leaders’ satyagraha at Rajghat in the capital.
“They are on satyagraha at Rajghat, I don’t know if it is a satyagraha or a celebration. Why were they dancing? Were they celebrating the arrest of Ramdev? BJP is not supporting it from heart, it is only politics,” Azad said.
Asked about the alleged violence during police’s post-midnight eviction of Ramdev and his supporters Saturday from the Ramlila Ground, Azad said: “Everyone is sympathising with the women and children, but law enforcement agencies have their own procedures. I am not saying if the timing was right or wrong. The prime minister does not decide, police decide logistics and time.”
The police forcibly removed Ramdev and thousands of his supporters from the Ramlila Ground. The yoga guru was then airlifted to Dehradun in Uttarakhand from where he was taken to his ashram in Hardwar Sunday morning.
Azad reiterated the government’s stand that there was an understanding with Ramdev that he would announce end of his agitation by 4 p.m. Saturday, which he did not.
