Mulayam Singh re-elected Samajwadi Party chief

Agra: Mulayam Singh Yadav was Tuesday unanimously re-elected Samajwadi Party president for the eighth time at what the party called its “historic” national convention in the Taj city.

Party general secretary Mohan Singh moved the resolution which was unanimously supported by delegates from all parts of the country.

Mulayam Singh will now name members of the national executive and chiefs of various frontal organisations and cells ofthe party.

Addressing delegates after his election, Mulayam Singh said he was given a heavy responsibility at a crucial juncture when the country was faced with all kinds of problems.

He said he would try his best to ensure the masses accepted the party and its policies whole-heartedly and the credibility of the organisation remained high in the state and country.

Earlier, Mulayam Singh indicated the Samajwadi Party would go alone in the Uttar Pradesh elections due in 2012 and expressed the confidence of returning to power in the state.
