Ahmedabad: Hitting out at “the most corrupt and repressive” Manmohan Singh government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday termed the prime minister as a CEO working on behalf of owners of a company – Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi – who were “not answerable”.
The comments by BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad to reporters here came as the party continued its face off with the Congress over yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s fast.
“The government of Manmohan Singh is the most corrupt government since independence,” Prasad said.
“The repressive character of this government is becoming increasingly evident with more and more corruption coming out,” he said, adding that the party believes the government is not keen on retrieving black money stashed abroad.
“The BJP strongly believes that the Manmohan Singh government will not take any effective steps to curb black money or bring back the money in foreign bank accounts which is the profit of crime and corruption because the face of its own people will be exposed,” he alleged.
Prasad also compared the prime minister to a CEO. “Manmohan Singh is like a CEO, who works on behalf of the owner of the company. Company’s owner is not answerable.”
He clarified that when he said owners, he was “talking about Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi” – the Congress president and her son and a general secretary of the Congress party.
The BJP has been attacking the government for its action against fasting yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his supporters at Ramlila Ground in Delhi on June 4. Baba Ramdev was detained and sent to Haridwar, while his supporters were baton-charged.
