It was the West Indies’ third straight win in Group B matches and another victory will assure them of a place in the last eight stage. The West Indies next play England March 17 and India March 20 in Chennai.

“We stuck to our game plan. We just aimed at keeping bowling dot balls and create pressure. We knew that a wicket was always round the corner in that case,” Sammy said at the post-match press conference.

“Three wins out of four is good. Another win will definitely seal our place in the quarterfinals. And, we aim to do that.”

On Ireland’s displeasure over the contentious leg before dismissal of Gary Wilson, Sammy said that the final call should always be of the umpire and he was happy with the decision.

“The umpires are always in charge. That’s what I have learnt since I began playing cricket. I personally tried to explain to him (Wilson) that there was no point in hanging around and getting fined. There is always the captain’s report to point it out. I didn’t see replays that closely. I was happy to see him out,” he said.
