Mumbai : Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has appealed to his supporters and Congress party workers not to greet him with flowers, garlands or gifts for his 65th birthday Thursday, an aide said here.
“The chief minister has specifically requested all people not to spend money on these things and instead donate it to the CM’s Relief Fund. It can be used for the needy and in times of dire emergencies,” the aide told IANS Wednesday.
A technocrat and former aviation and submarine instrumentation engineer, Chavan will celebrate his birthday with his family – wife Satvasheela, daughter Ankita and son Jai.
However, he has reserved two hours in the morning and evening each to enable people and hordes of party workers and legislators to meet him at the chief minister’s official residence ‘Varsha’.
Chavan will attend the ongoing budget session of the state assembly in the morning.
Earlier, a minister of state in the Prime Minister’s Office, Chavan took over as the chief minister of Maharashtra in November last year, replacing Ashok Chavan who had to resign in the wake of the Adarsh housing society scam.
