After no headway, NIA to take over Jama Masjid shoot out case

New Delhi: Even after six months and reward of whopping 55 lakhs when the Delhi Police couldn’t make any breakthrough in the Jama Masjid shoot out case, the case is likely to be transferred to the National Investigative Agency (NIA). The Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to send a formal letter requesting the NIA to take over the case.

The move immediately comes after the news that the NIA will investigate all the cases related to Saffron Terror like Samjhauta, Malegaon, Mecca Masjid and Ajmer bomb blasts. On September 19, 2010 a bus carrying Taiwanese tourists was attacked by two unidentified gunmen injuring two tourists at the gate number 3 of Jama Masjid.

Minutes after the attack there was an amateurish and minor crude bomb blast in a Maruti car located nearby the site of the shoot out. An e mail sent out to media by the Indian Mujahideen (IM) accepting responsibility for the attack added the IM and thereby a terror angle to the shoot out- some thing the Delhi police has had quite a flip flop stand on.

In spite of police releasing a sketch of a possible suspect several combing operation in the Western UP and Bombay, Delhi police was unable to make any headway in the case.

IM is a shadowy organization about which nothing much information is there in the public domain. In fact several revelations by the police about this allegedly a terrorist organization hasn’t been substantiated by proofs and many believe that IM is a front for some other organization which does a blast to distract the attention of the country from some issue of huge importance.
