20 blasts rocks Afghanistan, 16 injured

Kabul : Twenty blasts, including two suicide bombings, Saturday rocked Afghanistan’s southern city of Kandahar, leaving at least 16 injured, Xinhua reported.

The blasts took place in the provincial capital of Kandahar, a police officer said requesting anonymity.

Local government spokesman Zalmai Ayubi said 16 people, including six policemen, were injured.

A gun battle was going on between the security forces and the attackers Saturday evening in the city. The provincial governor’s office and several other places were attacked by Taliban militants.

Meanwhile, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, purported spokesman of the Taliban, told the media via telephone that his group has inflicted huge casualties during the attacks on the government buildings.
