During the week, special automatic customer card counters will be set up at 20 Metro stations that witness the maximum footfall.

“All Metro stations will display banners and standees highlighting the 10 percent discount in fares discount on card usage and other related benefits,” it said.

At present, over 60 percent of Metro passengers use smart cards.

“However, Metro intends to increase this figure to a level similar to that of the other Metro systems like Singapore and Hong Kong where almost 100 percent of commuters rely on smart cards for their smooth and comfortable journey,” the statement said.

According to the statement, Rajiv Chowk Metro station in central Delhi receives the highest number of passengers with about 4.5 lakh footfalls everyday, while 15 lakh passengers travel by the Delhi Metro on working days.
