CBI to probe cash flow behind conspiracy to demolish Babri Masjid

New Delhi: India’s premier investigating agency CBI will probe the cash flow that went into the conspiracy to demolish Babri Masjid. CBI has reportedly taken the decision after the Central Government asked the agency to reassess the Liberhan Commission report on the basis of which the CBI, media reports say, had rejected to file any case.

The government had handed over the report to the CBI on November 24, 2009 to look into the leads generated by the report. The agency last week returned the report saying no case can be filed on the basis of this report.

The Liberhan Commission, after 17 years of probe, had indicted 68 people including former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his deputy LK Advani in the demolition case. About 500-year-old Babri Masjid was demolished by mobs of Hindu fanatics on 6th Dec. 1992 in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

However, the agency is believed to have agreed to probe the cash flow behind the conspiracy and to also look into roles of at least 10 more people in the planning and execution.
