“I think she has read out a statement from BJP,” party leader Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters here.

“BJP has been saying that… only by speaking against corruption in Congress conventions, only by giving speeches, corruption will not end,” he said.

“The UPA chairperson should tell the nation what are the steps taken by her, her government and her party against corruption,” he added.

Gandhi, in a speech read out by Defence Minister A.K. Antony at a rally in Gauchar in Chamoli district of BJP-ruled Uttarakhand, said only words were not enough to deal with graft, in what seemed to be aimed at activist Anna Hazare and his team.

She could not attend the rally due to illness.
