Tendulkar (38) got out to Devendra Bishoo, disappointing the spectators at the Eden Gardens, who had high expectations of the master batsman getting his 100th international ton during the day.

Gambhir, who had opened the innings with Virender Sehwag (38) and got his 17th half century in 43 Tests, played a confident knock embellished with some fine shots.

He was involved in two good partnerships – 66 with fellow opener Sehwag and 83 with Dravid.

The Delhi left hander played his first loose stroke in the post lunch session that also brought about his dismissal. He went for a drive to a ball way outside the off stump and gave a straight forward catch to Adrian Barath at short cover.
