Islamabad : Funeral prayers were Sunday offered for the 24 Pakistani soldiers who died Saturday in a NATO attack on a border check-post, Geo News reported.
The prayers were offered at the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar.
Pakistan army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and other top army as well as administrative officials of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were present at the ceremony.
At least 24 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 15 others injured when NATO helicopters from Afghanistan attacked a border check-post Saturday in Mohmand agency in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar Sunday spoke on the telephone to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and conveyed the “deep sense of rage” felt across the country after the attack, Xinhua reported.
The foreign ministry said Khar rang up Clinton to inform the US government of the decisions taken by Pakistan’s Defence Coordination Committee which met in Islamabad Saturday evening.
The meeting asked the US to vacate the Shamsi air base in Pakistan. It also decided to block supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan via Pakistan.
