BJP to launch campaign against Mayawati

By IANS,

Lucknow : In its attempt to reach out to the masses in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the state 2012 assembly elections and exposing the alleged corruption in the Mayawati government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday announced it would undertake a ‘Janswabhiman Yatra’.

Under the ‘Janswabhiman Yatra’, BJP activists will be taking out two parallel rallies: one led by former BJP national president Rajnath Singh from Mathura and another led by former state BJP president Kalraj Mishra from Varanasi.

“The Janswabhiman Yatra will be launched in two phases — from Oct 13-22 and Nov 9-17. The foremost objective of the Yatra is to unmask the Mayawati government that is involved in large-scale corruption and other misdeeds,” BJP state president Surya Pratap Shahi told reporters at a press conference here.

While the party’s senior leader L.K. Advani will flag off the rally led by Mishra, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, her Rajya Sabha counterpart Arun Jaitley and NDA convenor Sharad Yadav will flag off the rally led by Singh.

“In its two phases, the ‘Janswabhiman Yatra’ will traverse through 61 districts, 370 state assembly constituencies, and reach around 4.31 crore voters.”

After covering a distance of around 5,000 km, the ‘yatra’ will conclude in Ayodhya in a ‘Vijay Sankalp Samagam’ Sammelan Nov 17, said Shahi.
