New Delhi : The proportionate electoral system (PES) would give a chance to all citizens to elect their representatives without any wastage of votes, an expert said Saturday.
“It will enhance inner-party democracy, as candidates of political parties will be declared elected from a list in the same proportion as the percentage votes that a party or a coalition gains,? said M.C.Raj of Campaign for Electoral Reforms in India (CERI).
He was addressing a seminar on electoral reforms organised by CERI and the International Confederation of NGOs (iCONGO) at the Lok Kala Manch here.
A panel discussion was also organised to discuss the need for the PES in the context of inclusive governance, minimising corruption and violence, reducing communalism and casteism and also enhancing representation of all citizens through their vote.
Among the participants at the discussion were Raj, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit executive member Sanjay Kaul, former Rajya Sabha MP Shahid Siddiqui and iCONGO founder Jeroninio Almeida.
