US President Barack Obama, former president George W. Bush and other officials joined family members of the victims of the terror attacks at the reflecting pools, which were built over the towers’ footprints, Xinhua reported.

The ceremony, expected to last over four hours, will pause six times — twice to mark the times when each of the twin towers was hit and twice to mark the times when each tower fell. The other two pauses will mark the times when the Pentagon was hit and when Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

After the first pause, Obama read a passage from the Bible. Then families of the victims started reading the names that have been carved in stone at the reflecting pools.

After the second pause, Bush read out a letter by Abraham Lincoln to a mother whose five sons were killed in battles.
