Kolkata: The West Bengal government will hold a comprehensive probe into the non-receipt of utilisation certificate for development projects worth Rs.48 crore in the northern part of the state during the Left Front regime, a minister said Monday.
“We have found there is no utilisation certificate for projects worth Rs.48 crore. The matter will be probed comprehensively. We will fix responsibility,” North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Deb said here.
Briefing mediapersons after a meeting of the North Bengal Development Council (NBDC) chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Deb said a special audit will be conducted in the matter.
The department’s engineers and officials will evaluate all the work undertaken by the erstwhile government over the 11 years since the NBDC came into being.
“Lot of projects are unfinished or half done. The LF government had allocated Rs.370 crore over 11 years. Some of the projects are still going on, while some others were never implemented. We will look into all these aspects,” said Deb, who is vice chairman of NBDC.
However, he could not give any list of the specific projects which would be under the scanner.
The meeting also decided to start work on war footing for implementing development projects for north Bengal after the Durga Puja next month. The central government has allocated money for four of the North Bengal districts which are in the list of backward districts.
The meeting was also attended by four other ministers from north Bengal — Forests Minister Hiten Barman, Correctional Administration Minister Shankar Chakraborty, Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Sabitri Mitra, and Mass Education and Library Services Minister Abdul Karim Chowdhury.
