India’s junior golfers eyeing for berths in Faldo Series Asia

Pune : Syed Saqib of Bangalore and Ankur Chadha from the DLF, Gurgaon, will be among the front-runners at the Toyota – Indian Golf Union’s (IGU) Faldo Series qualifier at the Poona Golf Club from Tuesday.

The event is official qualifier for the Faldo Series Asia. The country’s young stars will also be fighting for points to move up on the IGU Merit list.

It will be an equally intense fight in the girls section where Aditi Ashok, who has been having a great season, will clash with Gurbani Singh.

The four-day event is being preceded by a pre-qualifier, from which 25 boys in group A and 30 in group B will get berths into the main tournament, that is to be played from September 27 to 30 at the Pune Golf Club. The expected field is about 100 golfers.

The event is being held alongside IGU’s categorised tournament, which counts towards the Order of Merit. The golfers will compete in four age groups Under-18, 15, Under-13 and Under-11.

From the same tournament, two boys and girls each will be chosen for Under-18 and Under-16 sections of Faldo Series Asia Grand Final.

The 2011/2012 Faldo Series Asia schedule features 17 tournaments in 13 different countries including India, The Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Brunei, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Pakistan, Indonesia and Thailand.
