Chennai: After failing to reach an electoral understanding with Tamil Nadu’s ruling AIADMK for next month’s local body elections, the Communnist Party of India (CPI) Wednesday announced that it will join the alliance led by the DMDK.
CPI’s state secretary D.Pandian met DMDK chief, actor-turned-politician A. Vijayakant here and formalised the alliance.
Speaking to reporters here, Vijayakant said CPI has joined the DMDK alliance and the seats to be contested by the communist party will be announced later.
He said other small parties that fought the April assembly elections under the AIADMK fold might also join his front.
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has already aligned with the DMDK for the polls.
