Kolkata : Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was heading towards a whopping victory from Bhowanipore assembly constituency of West Bengal while her party Trinamool Congress has snatched the Basirhat (Uttar) seat from the Left Front in Sunday’s by-polls, an official said Wednesday.
“Trinamool Congress has won the Basirhat (Uttar) assembly constituency. The victory margin is 30,900-plus votes. The exact figures will come in by the evening. A total of 18 rounds of counting were held so far,” said Dibyendu Sarkar, joint chief electoral officer of the West Bengal election commission.
“After nine rounds of counting, Banerjee has taken a lead of 23,000-plus votes in Bhawanipore assembly constituency. Nine more rounds of counting will be held for the constituency,” said Sarkar.
