Company manager shot dead in Meerut

Meerut : Three unidentified criminals shot dead a manager of a cable company here Thursday, police said.

One shopkeeper was also critically injured when he tried to rescue the victim.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning near RG Girls Inter College on Western Kutchary (WK) road of this city of western Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, Pavitra Maitray, 37, the manager (Operations) of M/S Den-Galaxy, a company engaged in cable business was going to his office at Star Plaza near a children’s park.

At about 9.50 a.m. when Maitray’s SUV passed through WK road, three criminals on a black coloured motorcycle came in from of the jeep, halted their bike before it and opened indiscriminate fire on Maitray from the automatic weapons.

While one of the criminals remained on the motorcycle two criminals opened fire on the company manager.

The manager sustained eight bullet injuries. Local shopkeepers came forward to rescue the manager from the criminals and in the process, a shopkeeper sustained two bullet injuries.

Both the victims were rushed to a local Chaurasia Nursing Home, where Maitray was declared brought dead. The attending doctor revealed that the condition of the shopkeeper was critical.

The shop keeper was identified Sunil Yadav, who runs a motorcycle repair shop on WK Road.

Den-Galaxy is the syndicate company of cable operators in Meerut. The murder was committed to start fetching protection money from this lucrative business, police said.

“The order to initiate an absolutely fair investigation has been ordered. Till now no arrest has been made. The efforts to arrest the culprits are being made,” said Jawahar Lal Tripathi, the IG, Zone Meerut.
