AMU VC: Three names finalized by AMU Court

Aligarh: The wide speculation about new vice chancellor for Aligarh Muslim University was narrowed down on Sunday when members of the high-powered AMU Court finalized a panel of three names by votes, which will now be sent to President of India for appointment of one of them as the new VC of the university.

Three days back, the Executive Council of AMU had selected a panel of five names for the coveted post. In the voting on 15th April AMU Court meeting, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameeruddin Shah got 97 votes, Dr. Noor Mohammed, IAS (Retd.) 85 votes, Dr. Syed Khalid Rizvi, IPS 83 votes, SM Ashraf, Income Tax Commissionr, Dehi, got 49 votes and AA Siddiqui, IPS got 31 votes. Now the list of top three candidates will be sent to Visitor of AMU, President of India, for nomination of one of them as the VC.

The meeting was presided over by the former vice chancellor of AMU, Mahmoodur Rahman. Eminent members of AMU Court who took part in the voting included parliamentarians former cricketer Mohd. Azharuddin, Mohd. Adeeb, Shafeequr Rahman Barq, Asrarul Haque Qasmi, Mahmood Madani, former Hockey player Zafar Iqbal, former union secretary Moosa Raza, former VC of Lucknow University Prof. R P Singh, VC of central university Karnataka, Prof AM Pathan.
