Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas, general secretary of the Party suspected the role of anti-social and communal elements behind the exodus to endanger the communal situation of the whole nation. He asked the state and central governments to initiate urgent inquiry and find out the real mischief makers. It is to be remembered that the state of Karnataka has been an active hub of right-wing groups and moral policing squads to breed communal hatred.

He asked the state government to convene a meeting of all political parties and socio religious organizations to rekindle sense of security and confidence among the north eastern people. He also asked the Bangalore Police officials to convene such meetings at north east people concentrated localities. Welfare Party asked people to not to heed rumours and thwart evil designs of enemies of peace.

Dr. Ilyas referred to media reports by people admitting that they did not “directly” know of any cases of violence but feared of an “atmosphere of fear and mistrust” across the city. He alleged the media had blown the issue out of proportion and were partly responsible for creating such a fear environment.

He asked all political parties and social organizations to rise above narrow interests to ensure that efforts to weaken the plural and federal polity of the nation will not be allowed to win.
